The Love Note – Lone Star Lit

About the Book

WFFAcCOwTitle: The Love Note
Author: Joanna Davidson Politano
Genre: Historical, Romance, Christian, Fiction
Synopsis: Focused on a career in medicine and not on romance, Willa Duvall is thrown slightly off course during the summer of 1859 when she discovers a never-opened love letter in a crack of her old writing desk. Compelled to find the passionate soul who penned it and the person who never received it, she takes a job as a nurse at the seaside estate of Crestwicke Manor. Everyone at Crestwicke has feelings—mostly negative ones—about the man who wrote the letter, but he seems to have disappeared. With plenty of enticing clues but few answers, Willa’s search becomes even more complicated when she misplaces the letter and it passes from person to person in the house, each finding a thrilling or disheartening message in its words. Laced with mysteries large and small, this romantic Victorian-era tale of love lost, love deferred, and love found is sure to delight.

Author Interview!

Hello Joanna!
Thanks for stopping by and answering some of my questions 🙂

How long have you been writing?

I wrote my first story at age five, my first novel in my early twenties, my first published book around the time I started having children (which was very poor planning!).

How do you write? Any backstory to your choice?

I always write on the computer because of the amount of editing I do on the fly. I throw a bunch of words and phrases onto the page and move them around until they sound good. What a mess if I handwrote!

How does your book relate to your faith?

Writing is always like a conversation with God—I ask big questions and untangle the answers through story. I usually have a spiritual “theme” in mind when I start a book, but the coolest experience is when the answer to that theme, or the novel’s ending, take on a totally different slant than I ever expected!

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

The entire first draft! It was agonizing to get words on the page, and I couldn’t figure out where it was going. Once I finished, I realized I had the theme wrong and that changed absolutely everything—suddenly the pieces fit together, and the story worked.

What literary character is most like you?

I always identified with L. M. Montgomery’s Emily of New Moon. She’s plain and thoughtful, and she simply has to write. It pours out of her whether she makes time for it or not.

What did you find most useful in learning to write for publication? What was least useful or most destructive?

The most useful thing I did was to not write for publication. I sat down with no agenda and wrote exactly what I wanted to write, how I wanted it to be, and the words came quickly and naturally. I tried too hard before that and got rejection. When I quit trying and just enjoyed it, that’s the book that ended up being published.

And just for fun, if you had a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to have x-ray vision into people’s hearts. I love understanding people and seeing layers peel back as they talk, as their story is revealed. What would be wonderful about this superpower is that I’d never pre-judge anyone, and that’s a gift.

Thank you for taking the time to help us get to know the person behind the pages Joanna Davidson Politano 🙂
