Wedding planner Mariah Van Delton has a plan to save the charming small town of Carter’s Crossing—by turning it into a romance destination! All Mariah needs is a very public Valentine’s Day proposal. But a little charade between adversaries might just be the start of something undeniably real…
Cupid’s Crossing Series
The idea for this series came from the wish list the Heartwarming editors at Harlequin posted in the spring of 2019. Something my brain enjoys is taking two or three elements, throwing them together, and coming up with a romance. In this case, the editors were looking for small towns, not set on the coast, lower angst stories, and holidays.
I grew up in southeastern Ontario, just across the river from New York State. That area is familiar to me, and I appreciate its special beauty. I thought of setting a series there, in a small town. The kind of place where everyone knows everyone else and their business. Small towns often struggle, losing their younger people to larger towns and cities. This is the problem Carter’s Crossing has been facing, especially since the mill has been be shut down.
The town was named for the Carter family. Abigail Carter, matriarch of the family, bears the responsibility for the town, and while searching for a way to keep it alive, reaches out to an old college boyfriend to explore the possibility of setting Carter’s Crossing up as a wedding destination.
Gerald Van Dalton, who may have some personal reasons to assist Abigail, sends his granddaughter Mariah, a wedding planner, to help Abigail for a year. Mariah sees that there are greater possibilities for the town as a Centre for Romance: not just weddings, but proposals and weekend getaways.
Over the course of the three-book series coming out in 2021, the town will be transformed from Carter’s Crossing to Cupid’s Crossing. In the first book, there are three events set up for Valentine’s Day to kickstart the plan: one of which is a fake engagement between Mariah, the wedding planner, and Abigail’s grandson, Nelson, who is not a fan of wedding planners.
The second book will focus on town bad boy, Ryker, returning after a fourteen-year absence. He’s a computer guy and will set up the town website. Town good girl, Rachel, helps him and gets the brilliant idea that she can help him redeem his reputation – if he’ll help her sully hers a little bit.
The third book will cover the transformation of the former lumber mill to an event venue. The architect who’s been brought in suffered damage to his leg and career when a former contractor cut corners on a job and blamed him for it. The local contractor for the mill is a woman who has had it up to here with men micromanaging. Shouldn’t be a problem….
