Favorite Second Chance Stories and Why They Are So Compelling.

My latest release for Harlequin Romance is a second chance at love story. Something about reuniting old flames is so compelling to me as a romance author. I’m always so intrigued about the ‘one that got away’. The questions that linger about why the relationship didn’t work out and if there’s a chance things may turn out differently if only the couple had another chance. Maybe the story involves one of the characters swallowing their pride this time around. Something they found much too difficult to do the first time. But now they know how much was lost for the sake of ego. And just how little it was worth it.

Perhaps my favorite reunited exes movie is Sweet Home Alabama. Watching that movie made me want to write a second chance romance myself. Jake and Melanie went their separate ways years ago but fate brings them back together when Melanie returns home to finally ask for that divorce. Of course, the divorce never happens. Melanie rediscovers her love for her first husband, realizing that her personal growth doesn’t need to cost her the one true love of her life. Other favorites include The Parent Trap and It’s Complicated, which has the added bonus of starring Meryl Streep. You just know these couples are eventually going to realize their mistake and find their way back to each other, despite all the outside forces and other people who may want to keep them apart. And the journey they take to get there is just so entertaining and heartwarming. I strive for that level of emotion in the ‘reuniting’ stories that I write.

Her Inconvenient Christmas Reunion is the third second-chance romance I’ve written so far. Each of these books explores issues such as forgiveness, healing, and redemption. Also, the role that fate may play in bringing two ex-lovers back together again.

I’m pretty positive it won’t be my last.
